Observation on International Women's Day by Manipur State Commission for Women:

       International Women’s Day 2017  was  organised jointly by Manipur State Commission for Women, Department of Social Welfare Government of Manipur and Community Food & Nutrition, Extension Unit Ministry of Women & Child, Govt. of India on 8th March, 2017 at Manipur Central Jail on the theme “Be Bold for Change”. Smt.K.Sobita Devi,Chairperson, Manipur State Commission for Women,  Shri L.Nabakishore Singh, I.A.S. Director Social Welfare Department, Manipur, Smt.Soibam(O)Neelima Devi, Member, Manipur State Commission for Women, Smt.Ranjita Golmei, Member, Manipur State Commission for Women, Smt.Dr.Farida Shah, Member, Manipur State Commission for Women and Shri N.Subashchandra Singh, Superintendent of Police, Manipur Central Jail were grace the function as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honours respectively. As the Dignitories take their respective seat, the programme was started with the lighting of auspicious lamp. The Programme was followed by the welcome address by Smt.Bonobala Devi, Deputy Director, Women & Child (S/W). After the welcome address, the programme was followed by keynote address from hon’ble Chairperson, Manipur State Commission for Women Dr.K.Sobita Devi. In her keynote address she cleary signify the need for social and political participation as compare to other parts of the world. She further explained to the jail inmates that nowadays jail is not a torturing centre but it is a reformation centre. She further encourage the inmates that they are not alone we are ready to help them. During her speech, she launched a “Workshop on Applique work in Manipur” introduced by Smt.L.Bino Devi, State Awardee which is to be continue for 2 months among the Jail inmates. After the keynote address the programme was followed by a demonstration on applique art by Smt.L.Bino Devi. Applique art is necessary to maintain symbol of status among Manipuri society. After the demonstration, the programme was followed by the speech from Ch.Momon Singh, Advocate on “Women related laws. In his speech he pointed out the brief history of observing International Women’s Day. He further explained the new laws made for protection of women & child from sexual offences. After the speech from Ch.Momon Singh, the programme was followed by the speech from MS.Wallang Head, Community food & Nutrition Extension Unit,Ministry of Women & Child, Govt. of India. In her valuable speech she pointed out needs of taking a balance diet. She explain the importance of a newly introduce  vitamin called “x” which is only found in vegetable and fruits in blackish colour like black grapes etc. She also explained the meaning of the theme “ Be Bold for Change”. She emphasized the very promese that to achieved 50/50 share in all aspects by 2030. A special quiz programme was followed by the speech from Shri L.Nabakishwar Singh, IAS, Director Social Welfare Department, Govt. of Manipur. In his speech he mentioned the importance of observing the International Women’s Day every year throughout the planet and also asked the women folk of the state to come forward for the change boldly. The program was        concluded by the vote of thanks from Shri Meikam Kiran and thanked all the VIPs, participants, Print and Electronic Media , Organising Committee etc for their co-operation. And a light refreshment was served at the end.
