For the first time, a Workshop was initiated by Manipur State Commission for Women on the Applique Art of Manipur for Jail inmates, lodged in the Central Jail, Imphal with Dr.K.Sobita Devi, Chairperson, MSCW, Dr.Farida Shah, Ranjita Golmei, & Soibam (o)Neelima Devi, Members of MSCW along with Subhaschandra, S.P. Central Jail and staff members with the objective of upliftment of Socio- Economic status of Jail inmates.
During the workshop, Dr. K.Sobita Devi, Chairperson emphasized the need of continuing the old aged tradition of Applipue Art handed by our predecessors while highlighting the excellent skill of the Manipuri women and also stressed the need of finding a market place for selling out the products of the workshop through Mahila-E-Hut, launched by Ministry of Women & Child Development, New Delhi.
This workshop will be a pioneering step for empowerment of Socio-Economic status of women of our Nation as discussed in the meeting of the Research Study in Socio-Economic and Empowerment of Women in the North-East states in New Delhi, held on July, 2016.
It may be mentioned that this workshop was a followup action of the Commitment of the Commission, made on the Observance of International Women’s Day 2017 held at Central Jail, Imphal.
