The Manipur State Commission for Women was established in the year 2006 under the Manipur State Commission for Women Act, 2006 (Act No.13 of 2006 of Government of Manipur). The act extends to the whole of the State of Manipur. Under this Act, the Commission investigates and examines all matters relating to the safeguards provided for women under the Constitution of India and other relevant laws. The Commission recommends steps to be taken by the State Government for effective implementation of the safeguards and welfare measures for women. The Commission has been emerged with mainly:
To undertake promotional & educational research so as to suggest ways of ensuring due representation of women in all spheres and identify factors responsible for impending their advancement, such as lack of access to housing and basic services, inadequate support service and technologies for reducing drudgery and occupational health hazard.

Any other matter which may be referred to us by the State Government. The Commission is reconstituted every three years. The Commission consist of a Chairperson, three Members and staffs. The Chairperson and Members are appointed by the State Government.

Manipur State Commission for Women organize several legal awareness programme on different topics such as “Rights and Responsibilities of Women”, “Gender Sensitization” and “Crime against Women” in different parts of Imphal and also even at the remotest part of the State. The Commission organized such awareness programme in collaboration with different stakeholders at different parts of the State. Last year the Commission has organized more than 50 legal awareness programme and also conduct seminars and workshop to educate women on women empowerment, cybercrime and also on the socio-economic topic which can help them in becoming entrepreneurs.
